This presentation explores the efficacy and significance of static surgery in the context of non-flaccid facial palsy. Non-flaccid facial palsy, characterized by unique patterns of weakness and synkinesis, poses significant challenges in terms of both diagnosis and individualised management. The author delves into the various static surgical techniques employed to address asymmetry and functional impairment in non-flaccid facial palsy patients, including how using static procedures can improve biomechanics of muscle movement.. The presentation combines a comprehensive literature review with a retrospective analysis of cases, aiming to assess the outcomes and benefits of static surgical interventions. Emphasis is placed on understanding patient-reported outcomes, facial symmetry restoration, and the impact on overall quality of life. The author also discusses the criteria for patient selection, considering factors such as etiology, severity, and individual patient goals, and technical surgical pearls using case examples. Additionally, the author explores the potential synergies between static surgery and complementary modalities, such as physical therapy and neurorehabilitation. The findings contribute to the evolving landscape of facial reanimation procedures, shedding light on the nuanced applications of static surgery in a subset of facial palsy cases. Ultimately, this research and presentation aims to inform clinical decision-making, improve patient counselling, and enhance the holistic approach to managing non-flaccid facial palsy.
